Trump’s Latest Front to Take Down the CFPB
Statement of Patrick Woodall, Managing Director of Policy at Americans for Financial Reform:
As Russel Vought approaches the 210 day deadline to serve as the acting temporary director of the Consumer Protection Financial Bureau (CFPB), President Trump is yet again attempting to skirt the law by putting forward a placeholder nominee. This nomination only gives Vought more time to try and illegally shut down the agency that so many have relied on to lower costs and hold big banks and financial companies accountable. Without the CFPB, big banks, Big Tech, and other financial firms have a green light to take advantage of people and scam customers out of their hard earned money.
