Crypto, Big Tech, and Wall Street are Spending Gushers of Campaign Cash on the Midterm Elections
Washington, D.C. – A new analysis from Americans for Financial Reform, “Big Tech, Crypto, and Wall Street Money is Flooding the Midterm Elections,” revealed that between January 1, 2025 and July 28, 2026, eight cryptocurrency and Artificial Intelligence (AI) PACs spent over $100 million on the midterm elections. The money was spent in over 70 Congressional races across 28 states.

These eight—often interconnected—PACs are bankrolled by a small set of donors with significant influence in the tech and financial sectors, including co-founders Ben Horowitz and Mark Andreessen of the venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz; Greg Brockman, founder and president of OpenAI, and his wife, Anna Brockman; and cryptocurrency firm.
“A small set of billionaire tech oligarchs and financial firms are spending big to rig the system in their favor,” said Dustin Duong, research associate at Americans for Financial Reform. “By funneling money into races across the US, they are making sure industry-backed politicians will have a vested interest in passing their deregulatory agenda. In place of leaders who prioritize the needs of the public, these PACs are pushing for leaders beholden to special interests.”
The eight PACs are Fairshake, Defend American Jobs, Protect Progress, Leading the Future, American Mission, Think Big, Digital Freedom, and Fellowship PAC.
With an even larger warchest at their disposal, these PACs have money to spend on upcoming races. The eight super PACs and PACs alone are responsible for raising 78 percent of the $274 million total raised by all crypto and AI PACs this cycle, making up a disproportionate share of the sector’s political spending.
