Consumer, community, and civil rights groups sent a letter to the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) opposing the agency’s draft strategic plan for 2026–2030, arguing that it deliberately weakens the agency’s ability to regulate financial companies. The groups argue that the plan effectively protects predatory corporate interests and is part of the CFPB leadership’s long-term goal of shutting down the agency rather than carrying out its consumer protection mandate. The letter calls for a total rewrite of the plan to enable the CFPB to aggressively defend consumers and maintaincompetitive financial markets.
