Americans for Financial Reform Education Fund submitted a comment to the federal banking regulatory agencies opposing three dangerous proposals that would weaken the resilience of the financial system and make the economy more vulnerable to future crises while allowing big banks to return more money to wealthy shareholders. The bank regulators are proposing to substantially erode the loss-absorbing capacity of the banking system, undermining the most basic cushion of safety designed to allow banks to withstand shocks, protect depositors, and keep lending through stress instead of transmitting losses across the broader economy.
