AFR joined over 20 New York and national organizations in support of NY S8585/A9279, which would empower the NY Attorney General to pursue legal action against major oil and gas companies after a climate disaster, and NY S9942/A3842A, the Insure Our Communities Act, which applies New York’s state Community Reinvestment Act to property insurance companies and require public disclosure of rates and coverage data. The Act also bars insurers from underwriting new oil, gas, or coal projects or investing in fossil fuel companies, cutting off a major source of financing for corporations like Exxon that contribute to climate harm.
