Letters to Congress: AFR Opposes Sweeping Bank Deregulation and Rollbacks of Investor Protection

Americans for Financial Reform submitted a letter urging members of the House Financial Services Committee to oppose three bills under consideration in a markup scheduled for March 4, 2026. Two of the bills would accelerate the shift toward opaque, lightly regulated markets and off-exchange trading while preempting state blue sky laws—opening the door to more scams and fewer meaningful remedies for everyday investors and retirement savers. The third bill, a sweeping bank-deregulation package, would weaken core bank safeguards and supervision, push risk into the shadows, and raise the likelihood that bank losses end up socialized in the next publicly-financed bailout.
