The “Move Your Money” campaign got an extra boost this morning as it was mentioned on NPR’s Morning Edition.
Organizers of the campaign, which encourages consumers to move their money out of the big banks and into small local banks and credit unions, say that half of the zip codes in the United States have been entered into their website as people search for banks in their communities. The campaign was started to show people how easy it was to stop supporting the big banks while also making a point to large financial institutions who treat consumers badly, some of whom even have been spending bailout dollars to lobby against increased consumer protections.
