As Conference Begins, Advocates Remind Elected Officials They Will Be Held Accountable for Wall Street Reform Vote
- In Arkansas on June 15th, Americans for Financial Reform members canvass Pine Bluff at 4 pm. They will be encouraging people to contact Senator Blanche Lincoln and tell her to stay strong on derivatives language.
- In Connecticut, AFR members will canvass Rep. Jim Himes’ district to encouraging calls to communicate they are counting on Rep. Himes to keep standing up to the big banks and ensure transparency by regulating complicated derivatives and stop Wall Street from using our economy like a casino.
- In Colorado, AFR members will meet with Senator Mike Bennet on June 10th to express their support for his vote.
- In Delaware, AFR members walked from Senator Tom Carper’s Wilmington office to Senator Ted Kaufman’s office with a card to thank the senators for standing up to the big banks.
- In Indiana, Jobs with Justice and AFR held an event to thank Senator Evan Bayh for his support in the Senate and urge him to keep representing Hoosiers by supporting the strongest bill possible out of Conference Committee for final vote.
- In Louisiana last week, clergy members gathered outside to thank Senator Mary Landrieu for her vote and followed up by organizing a phone bank.
- In Maine next Tuesday, June 15th leaders from broad cross-section of constituents will gather in Portland to thank Senators Olympic Snowe and Susan Collins for their votes and a call for passage of strongest financial reform possible with no loopholes. Additionally, Maine’s People Alliance is knocking on over 1,000 doors a night to talk about financial reform and asking Mainers to call their senators.
- In Massachusetts, the AFR coalition delivered thank you notes to Senators John Kerry and Scott Brown for their votes for Main Street.
- In Missouri last Friday, AFR members delivered a big card of petitions to Senators Claire McCaskill and Kit Bond to their Springfield offices. Missourians will also visit Rep. Roy Blunt’s office on Thursday, June 17that 11:30 am to hold him accountable for voting with Wall Street banks.
- In North Dakota, faith leaders reached out to Senators Byron Dorgan and Kent Conrad to thank them for holding big banks accountable.
