The News Observer reports that the NC Secretary of State, Elaine Marshall, dropped off a petition with 2,500 signatures supporting financial reforms to the office of Republican Senator Richard Burr. Marshall will be running against Burr this fall. Here is an excerpt from their report:
Democratic Senate candidate Elaine Marshall showed up Republican Sen. Richard Burr’s Rocky Mount office Thursday to deliver a set of signatures from people supporting financial reforms.
The reforms were part of an online petition started by Marshall, Rob Christensen reports. The petition called for creation of a Consumer Financial Protection Agency, recoup of the taxpayer money that went to bail out the banks and the re-enactment of the Glass-Steagall Act, limiting the kinds of businesses in which banks can engage.
“It’s time for Richard Burr to put the people of North Carolina before his Wall Street friends,” said Marshall, who is North Carolina’s Secretary of State. She delivered 2,500 signatures.
