Since the mid 1990s, student borrowers who were defrauded by their college have been entitled to have those loans canceled. Betsy DeVos wants to change that.
In the fall of 2016, the Department of Education updated this rule to clarify the process and add protections. But when Betsy DeVos became secretary of education, she illegally attempted to delay the 2016 rule, and she continues to be in contempt of court for failing to stop illegal collections on some student loans that should be canceled under the rule.
Now Congress has an opportunity to reject DeVos’ effort to help for-profit college executives by while hurting students!
