New Effort Aims to Demystify Responsible Investing
New digital platform set to improve public understanding of ESG investing amidst widespread misinformation campaigns

WASHINGTON, DC – Amidst growing concerns over climate risks and the spread of corporate-financed disinformation campaigns around the use of environmental, social, and governance (ESG) factors in investing, Americans for Financial Reform Education Fund (AFREF) and Take On Wall Street launched: ESGexplainer.org. This website provides clear, accurate information on the importance of ESG investing for individual investments and overall portfolio health.

With anti-ESG campaigns led by dark-money political influence groups and private interests intensifying, this new website tackles anti-ESG campaigns by countering misinformation and providing unbiased insights into the actual value of responsible investing.

“Through ESGexplainer.org, our objective is to cut through the noise and demystify what it actually means to consider environmental, social, and governance risk factors and opportunities in investing,” said Natalia Renta, senior policy counsel for corporate governance and power at Americans for Financial Reform Education Fund. “When worker retirement security is at stake, we can’t afford to have this level of misinformation out there, spread by dark-money influence groups and private interests of the fossil fuel industry.”

ESGexplainer.org also offers introductory guides designed to enhance understanding of responsible investing, covering its impact on long-term investment value and sustainable investing practices. It also addresses concerns about anti-ESG legislation and its potential impacts. The platform is designed to engage a diverse audience, emphasizing the critical role of responsible investing in modern financial decision-making. Media resources, such as logos and brand assets, are available upon request.

“We are not just building a website; we are contributing to a movement of informed, responsible investors who understand why it’s so important to consider a wide range of risks and opportunities when it comes to where they put their money,” Renta added. “ESGexplainer.org is here to be the go-to resource for facts on responsible investing and a beacon of truth in a sea of misinformation.”
