AFR is launched

Americans for Financial Reform launched on Tuesday, June 16, with a press conference call featuring Executive Director Heather Booth, Jim Carr of NCRC, Dr. Rob Johnson of the Roosevelt Institute, and George Goehl of NTIC-NPA.
The coalition includes a broad array of financial experts and advocates who are joining together in an unprecedented campaign to reform our financial system and rebuild our economy.
“For too long the big banks have been making their own rules and gambling with your money. We’ve come together today to tell them those days are over,” said Heather Booth, director of the campaign. “The excesses of Wall Street have spilled over into our communities and now our communities are going repaying the favor by taking on the fight for real financial reform.”
On the call, Jim Carr from the National Community Reinvestment Coalition offered an overview of the Americans for Financial Reform coalition and plans to ensure oversight of Wall Street and protection for consumers and George Goehl from the National People’s Action detailed the grassroots support for significant reform. Prominent economist Rob Johnson addressed the crucial need for rebuilding a strong, solid foundation for the entire economy.
