Jake Bittle and The Great Displacement: a Conversation about Housing Displacement and Climate Change

On September 26, 2023 Americans for Financial Reform Education Fund hosted Jake Bittle, author of “The Great Displacement: Climate Change and the Next American Migration” along with housing experts and community leaders from Queens, New York, Paradise, California, and Puerto Rico to discuss the critical intersection of housing displacement and climate change. This event provided an opportunity to hear directly from frontline communities that have been impacted by housing affordability challenges and natural disasters.

Our featured guest, Jake Bittle shared invaluable insights into the complex issues linking climate change and housing instability. Jake was also joined by Sadia Rahman, Deputy Director of Chhaya Community Development Corporation; Ariadna Michelle Godreau Aubert, Founder and Executive Director of Ayuda Legal Puerto Rico; and Allen Myers, Founder and former Executive Director of Regenerating Paradise.

Facilitated by our Senior Policy Counsel, Caroline Nagy, this discussion highlighted not only the challenges but the pathways to solutions. It underscored the urgent need for comprehensive and equitable responses to the climate and housing crises.
