Marty Gruenberg’s Nomination to Lead FDIC Serves the Public Interest

Statement from Lisa Donner, Executive Director, Americans for Financial Reform

“We applaud the nomination of Marty Gruenberg to once again lead the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation. His longstanding commitment to prioritizing the needs of all families and communities, and his depth of experience and knowledge make him an excellent choice.”

The FDIC underpins consumer trust in the banking system by insuring deposits and ensuring depositors are made whole if a bank fails, and Gruenberg’s steady leadership is particularly needed as novel threats to financial stability continue to emerge.  We look forward to working with Mr. Gruenberg and the FDIC staff as they continue the essential work of the agency, including updating the approach to mergers in the banking industry to guard against concentration that hurts small businesses and individual customers alike; safeguarding banks from contagion risk currently posed by digital assets; and strengthening the Community Reinvestment Act.
