AFR Debunks Latest Republican Talking Point

Washington, DC – Americans for Financial Reform released the following statement in response to Republican conferees’ attempts to spread lies about the Wall Street reform bill’s effect on small businesses.  Of course the truth is this bill will make the derivatives market more transparent, leveling the playing field for all businesses.

Heather Booth, Director, Americans for Financial Reform: “This is just another scare tactic by those who profit off the casino economy and their proxies in Congress. All the key players in drafting this legislation have made clear that regulators will have no authority to impose margin requirements on end users. We cannot allow these lies to derail this historic legislation. These opponents can claim to defend small businesses and Main Street all they want, but the reality is they’re simply shilling for Wall Street which is looking to keep the status quo.”
