Updated: 200 Organizations sign on to letter in support of Cordray nomination. National, State, and Local Organizations Call On U.S. Senators to Protect Consumers.

*A Letter of support for General Cordray’s nomination with sign ons from more than 200 National, State, and Local organizational has been circulated to Senate today. Actions groups are engaging in include Paid Radio Ads, Online Organizing and In-person Petition Deliveries Urging Confirmation.*

Washington, DC – National, state and local organizations are mobilizing activists around the country around this week’s expected vote on the nomination of Richard Cordray to head the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB).

There is tremendous public support for holding Wall Street accountable, and for ending tricks and traps in the consumer financial marketplace (click here to view polling data).  With a decision on a strong consumer financial protection bureau once again in front of the Senate, organizations around the country are engaging their members to take action.

Activities around the country include:

  • Paid radio spots in Nevada, West Virginia, and Nebraska
  • Activating hundreds of thousands of activists and local leaders to contact their senators through emails and calls
  • Patch through calls into offices in Nebraska, West Virginia, Nevada, Ohio, Maine, Alaska, and Iowa
  • Online organizing including e-alerts, for example here and here,
  • Activating the public to contact their Senators via Twitter, Facebook, and blogging
  • State based press statements and press outreach asking whether Senators will stand up for consumers or side with Wall Street.
  • Delivering petition signatures to targeted Senators state offices, including a Monday deliver to Senator Portman’s office in Ohio and planned delivery to Maine Senate offices on Wednesday
  • State and local press calls, including for example a New Hampshire PIRG call scheduled for Thursday.
