Americans Take to the Streets Demanding an End to the Era of Big Bank Recklessness

Washington, DC – On Wednesday April 21 at 10:30 a.m. Senators Sherrod Brown and Jeff Merkley will join with advocates for Wall Street accountability to detail plans to pass tough, new laws that keep the bad bets of the big banks on Wall Street from harming American families on Main Street and prevent future taxpayer bailouts.

“While Sen. McConnell meets with Wall Street bankers to ask what he can do for them, the American people are calling on the rest of their elected leaders to remember the rest of us and hold the big banks accountable for crashing our economy and wiping out 8 million American jobs. It is the classic David versus Goliath fight, but in this case, Goliath has a lot to answer for and we have passion, power and most importantly, people,” said Heather Booth, director of Americans for Financial Reform.

“People are angry.  The big banks created the foreclosure crisis, sank the economy, needed a taxpayer bailout, and are now spending money in Washington like never before to block common sense reforms that would protect people and strengthen our economy.  Enough is enough.  It’s time we take the fight straight to the banks and hold them accountable,” said George Goehl, executive director of National People’s Action.
