AFR Recommended Position on remaining amendments to the Consumer Financial Protection Agency bill

Dear Representative,

On behalf of the members of Americans for Financial Reform, a coalition of over 200 national, state and local consumer, labor, retiree, investor, community and civil rights organizations that have come together to spearhead a campaign for real reform in our banking and financial system, we have attached a chart with our recommended positions on key remaining amendments to the Consumer Financial Protection Agency Act, H.R. 3126, which is in continued markup beginning this afternoon before the Financial Services Committee.

If further amendments are considered, we support amendments to strengthen the bill’s protection of the public; we oppose amendments that would provide exemptions or loopholes for businesses or that would restrict state authority to protect the public.

In addition, please find attached two op-eds in support of a strong CFPA.

Sincerely,

Americans for Financial Reform
